Jordanian Court of Cassation upholds drug trafficking sentences
The Jordanian Court of Cassation has upheld several rulings issued by the State Security Court regarding major drug-related offenses. The decisions cover six distinct cases involving the smuggling of hundreds of thousands of Captagon pills, possession of narcotics for trafficking, and marijuana cultivation.
In a significant cross-border smuggling case, the court upheld a 15-year prison sentence and a 15,000 dinar fine for a Syrian national who smuggled over 750,000 Captagon pills inside a truck using secret compartments. An accomplice, a Jordanian national responsible for receiving the shipment, received a 20-year prison sentence and a 20,000 dinar fine.
The court also confirmed sentences for local distributors, including a 5-year sentence for an individual caught with hashish and Captagon in a vehicle, and another 5-year sentence for a dealer caught attempting to sell narcotics to an undercover security officer. Other sentences ranged from 20 months to 20 years depending on the severity of the offense.
