Jordanian King orders manhunt after terror attack on Orthodox church

King Abdullah II of Jordan has ordered security forces to hunt down those responsible for a terrorist attack on a Greek Orthodox church in the Karak Province. The attack occurred on October 23, 2026, during a funeral service in the village of Hamoud, resulting in at least eight to nine deaths and between 27 and 40 injuries.

During a National Security Council meeting, the King described the incident as a shameful act of terror that contradicts Jordanian values and national harmony. He emphasized that security is a “red line” and vowed that justice would reach the perpetrators. The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem also condemned the attack, stating that such violence would not undermine the unity between Muslim and Christian communities in the country.

In response to the tragedy, the Indonesian government issued a strong condemnation, expressing solidarity with the King and the Jordanian people. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating with local authorities through its embassy in Amman to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens in Jordan.
