Jordanian Labor Minister orders crackdown on nursery and disability employment compliance
Jordanian Minister of Labor, Dr. Nidal Al-Qatamin, has directed the Ministry of Labor's inspection directorate to develop a comprehensive plan to enhance labor market oversight. The initiative aims to ensure that private sector establishments comply with legal requirements regarding the provision of institutional nurseries or approved alternatives for employees' children. Additionally, the plan focuses on verifying that companies adhere to mandatory employment quotas for persons with disabilities.
Al-Qatamin emphasized that the initial phase of this plan will prioritize guidance and awareness through workshops held in cooperation with chambers of commerce and industry. The goal is to educate employers on labor laws to create a safer and more attractive work environment, particularly for women and people with disabilities, before resorting to legal penalties or fines.
Under current labor laws, employers with at least 15 children aged five and under at a single location are required to provide suitable childcare facilities. Furthermore, companies must comply with specific employment percentages for persons with disabilities as stipulated by the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
