Jordanian Senate President calls for stronger parliamentary roles in global crises
Faisal al-Fayez, President of the Jordanian Senate, called on international parliaments to play a more active role in responding to contemporary global crises. Speaking at the International Conference of Speakers of Parliaments in Rome, al-Fayez emphasized that addressing modern challenges requires strong legislative bodies capable of protecting their citizens and building stable futures.
He noted that current conflicts and challenges—including climate change, economic instability, international security threats, and cybersecurity issues—are increasingly complex and no longer confined to single nations. Al-Fayez argued that responding to these issues requires a genuine partnership between governments, civil society, and international organizations, with parliaments serving as a central pillar.
During his address, al-Fayez highlighted key themes from King Abdullah II’s speech to the United Nations General Assembly. He reiterated the King’s call for the international community to uphold its responsibilities regarding international security, respect international law, and move from merely managing crises to addressing their root causes to protect human dignity and the right to life.
