Jordi Hereu to lead PSC list for general elections

Jordi Hereu, the Minister of Industry and Tourism and former Mayor of Barcelona, is set to lead the Socialists' Party of Catalonia (PSC) candidate list for the general elections scheduled for November 29. While the party has not officially confirmed the appointment, internal decisions indicate that the PSC executive and National Council are expected to ratify his candidacy in the coming days.

Hereu succeeds Meritxell Batet, the former President of the Congress, who led the party's lists in previous elections. The move follows a tradition within Catalan socialism of placing its most prominent institutional figures at the head of electoral lists.

This political shift marks a return to the front lines for Hereu, who had previously stepped back from high-level politics following his tenure as Mayor of Barcelona. The PSC aims to strengthen the progressive majority for Pedro Sánchez in the upcoming vote.
