Jorge Amado and Erico Verissimo correspondence published in new book

A new book titled 'Cartas: Jorge Amado – Erico Verissimo' has been released, compiling correspondence exchanged between the two prominent Brazilian writers over more than four decades. The launch took place at Casa Motiva in Salvador as part of the Pelourinho International Literary Festival (Flipelô).

Organized by Paloma Jorge Amado and Bete Capinan, the collection is part of the 'Um gesto de amizade' series by the Fundação Casa de Jorge Amado. The letters, which date from the 1930s until Erico Verissimo's death in 1975, offer historical documents and literary testimonies. The volume includes contributions from Luis Fernando Verissimo and Fernanda Verissimo.

Paloma Jorge Amado noted that the letters provide insight into the creative processes of both authors, including early details regarding the development of Jorge Amado's fundamental work, 'Jubiabá'. Fernanda Verissimo highlighted the deep mutual respect and literary knowledge shared between the two authors in their writings.
