Jorge Armando Pérez Amezquita captured in Bucaramanga for killing of peace signatory Dimar Torres

Retired colonel Jorge Armando Pérez Amezquita was apprehended on the afternoon of 3 August in Bucaramanga, after investigators from the Fiscalía’s Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) and the Metropolitan Police’s SIJÍN, supported by the 5th Combat Engineers Battalion, intercepted him on Calle 41 between carreras 12 and 13 in the García Rovira neighbourhood. He was taken into custody to serve a 40‑year prison sentence for homicide of a protected person.

The conviction stems from the 22 April 2019 murder of Dimar Torres Arévalo, a former FARC combatant and signatory of Colombia’s 2016 peace agreement, whose body was found in the rural Campo Alegre area of Convención, Norte de Santander. The case, one of the most emblematic instances of violence against peace signatories, was investigated by the CTI, which gathered testimonies and forensic evidence despite a heavily altered crime scene.
