Jorge Asjana David sworn in as rector of Dominican Republic's UASD

Doctor Jorge Asjana David was inaugurated as the 22nd rector of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) on 16 July 2024, becoming the fifth professor from the Faculty of Health Sciences to hold the position. His election follows a tradition of rotating leadership among the university’s various faculties.

In his first weeks, Asjana David met with Housing and Buildings Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó to launch the renovation of the university’s Faculty of Engineering and Architecture building. He thanked President Luis Abinader for continued support of public higher education and pledged to advance the campus‑wide modernization plan throughout his term.
