Jorge Berredo resigns as San Isidro security secretary

Retired Argentine Army General Jorge Berredo stepped down as Secretary of Security for the municipality of San Isidro, Buenos Aires Province, after only about two weeks in the role. The resignation was announced by Mayor Ramón Lanús, who had appointed Berredo on 22 July, and was attributed to “strictly personal reasons.” No successor has been named.

Berredo’s career spans more than four decades in the armed forces, including service as operational commander overseeing air, maritime, land and cyber surveillance, participation in Antarctic and humanitarian missions, and leading the evacuation of roughly 900 Argentines from Israel during the 2023 conflict. Prior to his brief tenure, the security portfolio had been managed temporarily by municipal officials José Sánchez Sorondo and Fernando Ruiz.
