Jorge Castro's historic WBA title victory over John David Jackson
Argentine boxer Jorge ‘Roña’ Castro is remembered for his historic victory against American John David Jackson on December 10, 1994, in Monterrey, Mexico. Defending his WBA middleweight world title, Castro faced significant adversity throughout the fight, suffering sustained punishment and appearing close to a medical stoppage by the eighth round.
After being granted one final round by the ringside physician, Castro executed a strategic maneuver in the ninth round. While positioned against the ropes, he feigned being weakened to lure Jackson in, then landed a decisive left cross to the chin. The blow knocked Jackson down, leading to a knockout victory that secured Castro’s title and cemented his legacy in Argentine boxing history.
