Jorge Drexler praises Bad Bunny for expanding Spanish language reach

Uruguayan singer Jorge Drexler has expressed admiration for the global impact of reggaeton and artist Bad Bunny. Ahead of a concert in Paris to present his new album, Taracá, Drexler noted that Bad Bunny has expanded the reach of the Spanish language to areas where even Don Quixote did not reach numerically.

Drexler defended the lyrical content of reggaeton, stating that while hypersexuality is often criticized, the genre has expanded the semantic field of songwriting by including intimate language previously absent from mainstream music. He also addressed criticisms of misogyny in modern genres, noting that such elements have historically existed in tango, rock and roll, and milonga.

Describing Iberoamerican music as a “laboratory of globalization” that existed long before the term was coined, Drexler highlighted the integration of various rhythms, such as candombe, within his work.
