Jorge Fonseca wins silver at Grand Slam Hungary

Portuguese judoka Jorge Fonseca secured a silver medal in the -100 kg category at the Grand Slam in Hungary. This marks his first podium finish in this weight class in over two years, following his previous successes in Antalya and Ulaanbaatar.

In the final match, Fonseca faced Italy’s Gennaro Pirelli, currently ranked second in the world. Fonseca ultimately lost the bout after receiving a third penalty (shido). His path to the final included victories over Piotr Kuczera of Poland via ippon, world leader Leonardo Gonçalves of Brazil via waza-ari, Peter Kenderesi of Hungary, Gor Karapetyan of Armenia, and Daniel Eich of Switzerland in a golden score match.

In the +78 kg category, Rochele Nunes defeated Hilal Ozturk of Turkey in the opening round but was subsequently eliminated by Egypt’s Safa Soliman.
