Jorge Gandini denies laundering links following advisor's conviction

Pablo Leiva, a former advisor to councilman Gonzalo Gómez, has been sentenced to two years and six months in prison for money laundering and internal trafficking of ammunition following the ‘Operación Trazador’ investigation.

The investigation has expanded to include a collection branch registered to Laura Scalabrino Muga, the wife of Jorge Gandini, director of the National Ports Administration (ANP). Police are examining whether the business was used in a laundering scheme.

In a press conference, Jorge Gandini denied any involvement in illegal activities, stating that neither he, his wife, nor their employees had been formally notified of an investigation by the prosecution or police. Gandini asserted that the transactions in question involved legitimate clients paying social security contributions and maintained that all operations are fully documented. The Frente Amplio political coalition has expressed alarm regarding the situation and has called for meetings within the Board and Parliament.
