Jorge Gutiérrez Contreras appointed Health Secretary of Quintana Roo

Jorge Gutiérrez Contreras has assumed the role of Secretary of Health for Quintana Roo and head of the State Health Services (SESA). He succeeds Flavio Carlos Rosado, who resigned to pursue an internal political process within the Morena party for the municipal presidency of Isla Mujeres.

Gutiérrez Contreras, a surgeon and obstetrician with over 27 years of experience in the healthcare sector, has served as the state's Undersecretary of Health since 2023. His previous roles include serving as head of Sanitary Jurisdiction Number 2 and medical subdirector at the ISSSTE Hospital in Cancún.

The appointment, made by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, aims to ensure continuity in public health programs, strengthen hospital infrastructure, and improve medical access across the state's 11 municipalities. Efforts will focus on disease prevention, epidemiological surveillance, and expanding medical coverage, particularly in Cancún and Chetumal.
