Jorge Jesus appointed head coach of Portugal's national football team

Jorge Jesus, the 72‑year‑old former Benfica manager, has been appointed head coach of Portugal's senior men’s national football team. The appointment was highlighted by national technical director Óscar Tojo, who praised Jesus’s charisma and his record of 24 titles, saying his qualities could benefit both the senior side and youth squads. Jesus will be assisted by a technical staff that includes João de Deus, Fábio Jesus, Márcio Sampaio, Rodrigo Araújo, Gil Henriques, Ricardo Pereira and Nelson Pereira.

Former Benfica president Luís Filipe Vieira expressed confidence in the new coach, describing him as “a super professional” and stating that Jesus’s focus on winning each game aligns with the federation’s goals. Vieira also commented on Cristiano Ronaldo’s role, noting that Jesus has a good relationship with the veteran forward and will manage his involvement in the national team.
