Jorge Jesus named Portugal coach, recalls parents' deaths and Ronaldo substitution stats

Jorge Jesus was appointed the new Portugal national team manager and, during his introductory press conference, asserted that he had substituted Cristiano Ronaldo 16 times in the previous season. A detailed analysis later showed the actual figure was 17, with most substitutions occurring after the 80th minute.

In a recovered 2017 interview, Jesus spoke emotionally about the loss of his mother, who died of colon cancer in 1994, saying, "Andei oito ou nove anos de luto." He also recalled his father’s struggle with Alzheimer’s until his death in 2017, describing both parents as major influences on his life and career.
