Jorge Koch criticizes MDB after legislative election defeat

Former Orleans mayor Jorge Koch (MDB) has evaluated his performance in the recent elections for the Santa Catarina Legislative Assembly (Alesc). Koch received 25,208 votes statewide, falling short of his target of 40,000 votes.

Koch criticized the current state of the MDB, stating that the party is “outdated” and needs to re-evaluate its political positioning, alliances, and campaign methods to better connect with voters. He attributed the election results to the rise of right-wing candidates and the heavy influence of social media, specifically short videos and live broadcasts.

Following the results, Koch indicated that he may end his career as a political candidate.
