Jorge Luis Villalón Torres killed in Michoacán high-security prison
Jorge Luis Villalón Torres, known as ‘El Marino’, was killed by gunfire inside the Mil Cumbres high-security prison in Michoacán, Mexico. Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla confirmed the death, clarifying that the incident was a direct attack by one inmate against another rather than a prison riot or general brawl.
Villalón Torres was held in pretrial detention and was facing charges for the 2023 murder of 16-year-old Alexander ‘N’ in Lázaro Cárdenas. The suspect had been a fugitive until his arrest by Interpol in Montreal, Canada, in March 2025, followed by his extradition to Mexico in early 2026.
The State Attorney General’s Office is currently investigating how a firearm was introduced into the high-security facility. While prison officials initially reported conflicting details regarding the method of death, the Governor confirmed the use of a low-caliber firearm in the targeted assault.
