Jorge Álvarez Máynez endorses Grecia Quiroz and Carlos Manzo's legacy

Jorge Álvarez Máynez, the national leader of Movimiento Ciudadano (MC), has expressed formal support for Grecia Quiroz, the mayor of Uruapan, and the Movimiento del Sombrero movement. In a video statement, Máynez accused the “old politics” of attempting to corner and marginalize the movement ahead of the 2027 elections.

Máynez specifically defended the legacy of Carlos Manzo, the founder of the Movimiento del Sombrero, noting that Manzo was left unsupported when he spoke out against violence in Michoacán. The leader characterized Manzo’s death as a “cowardly assassination” and claimed that political opponents fear the social strength of Quiroz and the movement, seeking to prevent them from competing in upcoming elections.

This endorsement follows Máynez’s recent attendance at Quiroz’s government report, an action interpreted by analysts as a potential step toward forming a strategic alliance for the 2027 gubernatorial race in Michoacán.
