Jorge Macri faces criticism over management and service restrictions
Buenos Aires City Chief Jorge Macri is facing criticism from political opponents and implementing new policies regarding service access for non-residents. Legislator Guadalupe Tagliaferri has publicly attacked Macri’s administration, labeling him “an useless person at solving the problems of Buenos Aires residents” and accusing him of prioritizing marketing over effective management. Tagliaferri also criticized his political alignment with President Javier Milei.
Simultaneously, the city administration is formalizing restrictions on access to local services for residents of the surrounding Buenos Aires province. Under Decree No. 142-26, the city is prioritizing its own taxpayers for appointments, quotas, and administrative services. Jorge Macri stated on social media that the city’s diagnostic centers are exclusive to residents, claiming the era of the city acting as a “prepaga del conurbano” (health insurance for the suburbs) has ended. While the decree excludes emergency and urgent medical care from these restrictions, it establishes a preferential order of attention for local residents in all other state-provided services.
