Jorge Martin defends decision to join Yamaha in 2027

MotoGP championship leader Jorge Martin has addressed skepticism regarding his decision to leave Aprilia for Yamaha in 2027. Despite currently leading the standings with Aprilia, Martin views the move as a long-term strategic decision based on upcoming 2027 technical regulation changes, which include 850cc engines and reduced aerodynamic aids.

Martin emphasized that his choice was made after careful reflection, contrasting it with a previous hasty decision. He noted that while Yamaha has struggled recently, the new regulations offer a reset opportunity. The transition will see Ai Ogura joining Yamaha, while Fabio Quartararo moves to Honda.

Following the recent race weekend at Silverstone, Martin maintains a 14-point lead in the championship. Despite a technical error at the start of the Silverstone race that prevented him from challenging for the win, he expressed satisfaction with his team's competitiveness and his focus on continuous improvement rather than just championship position.
