Jorge Martin eyes Yamaha switch after battling Marc Marquez

At the German MotoGP round at Sachsenring on 12 July 2026, Spanish rider Jorge Martin said he feels honoured to compete against Marc Marquez, whom he called the best rider in MotoGP history, and stressed that defeating Marquez is essential to secure the 2026 world title. Marquez won both the sprint and the main race, earning a perfect 37 points and moving to third in the championship, 18 points behind Martin.

Martin also responded to criticism of his announced move from Aprilia to Yamaha for the 2027 season. He said, “Every decision I make, I make because I believe it is the best for me and my family,” adding that he has repeatedly proved doubters wrong. Citing Yamaha’s new V4 engine, upcoming 850 cc regulation changes and a major technical overhaul, Martin argued the switch is driven by long‑term potential rather than just financial terms.
