Jorge Martin Leads MotoGP World Championship

Spanish rider Jorge Martín took the MotoGP world‑championship lead after finishing third at the Dutch Grand Prix in Assen. The lead, a seven‑point advantage over teammate Marco Bezzecchi, came largely because Bezzecchi crashed, allowing Martín to gain points while his rival scored none.

Martín acknowledged that his position is aided by luck and that he is still “missing a lot of laps” on the Aprilia bike, having missed most of the 2025 season and the start of 2026 due to injury. He described the title lead as a product of consistency, resilience and taking advantage of opponents’ mistakes rather than outright dominance, and said he still needs to improve his feel for the bike before the summer break.
