Jorge Rial criticizes romanticization of Chiche Gelblung’s death

Journalist Jorge Rial has sparked controversy following the death of Argentine media figure Chiche Gelblung. Gelblung passed away at age 82 at the Sanatorio Los Arcos due to severe respiratory complications.

While many colleagues have honored Gelblung by highlighting his dedication to his craft, Rial criticized the tendency to romanticize his decision to work until his death. Rial argued that Gelblung worked out of financial necessity rather than choice, stating, “He died working because he needed the money. He had to leave the clinic and run to the studio because he lived day to day.”

Rial further questioned the culture of excessive labor, suggesting that at 80 years old, Gelblung should have been resting and spending time with his family. He noted that he had seen the journalist in poor health, even arriving in a wheelchair, which he believes contradicts the narrative of a voluntary passion for work.
