The Colombian Council of State has issued a first-instance ruling to strip former Senator and Senate President Iván Name Vásquez of his investiture. The decision follows findings of influence peddling related to a corruption scandal involving the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD).

According to the court, Name allegedly received approximately 3,000 million pesos to facilitate the legislative process for government-backed initiatives, most notably the pension reform. The funds were reportedly sourced from public resources originally intended for emergency needs in the department of La Guajira.

The investigation implicated several high-ranking officials, including former UNGRD director Olmedo López and former sub-director Sneyder Pinilla, as well as former presidential advisor Sandra Ortiz and Carlos Ramón González. Evidence presented included testimonies, WhatsApp chats, and cell phone location data. The ruling states that Name's actions violated principles of democratic representation and parliamentary integrity.
