Bolivia President Rodrigo Paz warns of firm response if road blockades return

President Rodrigo Paz addressed the 217th anniversary of the La Paz “Gesta Libertaria,” recalling the 53 days of nationwide road blockades that disrupted fuel, food and supply transport earlier this year. He warned that any repeat of such actions will be met with firm government action to defend democracy, the constitution and the right to build a united nation. Paz also defended his administration’s economic policy, downplaying a recent rise in the dollar and emphasizing efforts to attract investment.

Opposition leader and former president Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga criticised the government for failing to deliver any structural laws in nine months, urging a partial constitutional reform and accusing the administration of relying on a pact with the COB and the legacy of Evo Morales. Vice‑president Edmar Lara echoed calls for accountability, stating that “history does not forgive the half‑hearted,” and urged authorities to keep promises to the people.
