Jorginho Mello outlines priorities for second Santa Catarina term

Jorginho Mello faces several key challenges during his second term as governor of Santa Catarina, following his reelection with 68.98% of the valid votes. His administration will focus on infrastructure, public security, and basic sanitation.

In terms of infrastructure, Mello has identified the North Coastal Corridor (Via Mar) as a priority. He also intends to work with the federal government to improve BR-282 and complete the duplication of BR-470 to support the state's competitive economy.

Sanitation remains a critical issue, as the state currently has only 35.9% sewage collection and treatment coverage. The administration must work toward the legal mandate of providing 90% coverage by 2033. Additionally, while the state maintains one of the lowest violent death rates in Brazil, Mello must address public security and the 335 recorded cases of femicide between 2020 and 2024.
