Brazilian midfielder Jorginho is at the center of unconfirmed reports alleging a positive doping test result during a CONMEBOL control. The news, initially reported by Brazilian journalist Thiago Asmar, suggests the sample was taken during an unannounced test prior to a quarter-final match against Independiente del Valle.
An analysis of the B-sample is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27. If the violation is confirmed, the 34-year-old midfielder could face a suspension ranging from six months to two years, depending on the substance and circumstances. Such a penalty could effectively end his professional career.
Flamengo has stated they have received no official notification from CONMEBOL regarding a positive result or a scheduled re-test. CONMEBOL has declined to comment, citing the confidentiality of anti-doping protocols. Jorginho, a former UEFA Men's Player of the Year and Champions League winner with Chelsea, joined Flamengo in the summer of 2025.
