Jorhat villagers struggle to rebuild after Assam floods

Nearly a month after devastating floods struck Majiya Bheti village in Jorhat, Assam, residents are struggling to rebuild their lives and livelihoods. The disaster has caused widespread destruction of homes, crops, livestock, and fisheries.

Families dependent on agriculture and daily-wage labor face significant food and income uncertainty. Residents reported that essential resources, such as hay stored for cattle and fish stocks in local fisheries, were washed away by the floodwaters. For many, the loss of agricultural harvests means they no longer have the expected financial support to manage daily meals and household needs.
