José Adriano Jayme dies in Morro dos Pireneus accident, Brazil

José Adriano Pompeo de Pina Jayme, 56, who served as the Imperador of the Festa do Divino Espírito Santo in Pirenópolis for the 2026 celebration, died on Friday, 31 May after slipping while placing the traditional flags on the third peak of Morro dos Pireneus during the Festa do Morro honoring the Holy Trinity.

Fire‑department teams and a rescue helicopter were dispatched, but the severity of his injuries prevented his survival. The municipal government of Pirenópolis issued a statement expressing sorrow for the loss and extending condolences to his family and the local community.
