José Alberto El Canario honored with street naming in New Jersey

Dominican salsa artist José Alberto ‘El Canario’ was honored in Union City, New Jersey, with the inauguration of a street named ‘José El Canario Alberto Way’. The event, attended by musical peers such as Gilberto Santa Rosa and Tito Nieves, served as a tribute to the musician’s career and his Dominican heritage.

Mayor Brian P. Stack and the Board of Commissioners supported the naming, recognizing the artist's cultural impact. The honor coincides with El Canario’s 50th anniversary in the music industry. To celebrate this milestone, he is scheduled to perform a concert in Pembroke Pines, Florida, on October 24, alongside artists such as Eddy Herrera and Ramón Orlando.

El Canario is also embarking on an international tour covering cities including Santo Domingo, San Juan, New York, and Mexico City. Recently, he achieved a historic milestone at the Latin Grammys, becoming the most awarded artist in the Best Traditional Tropical Album category, a record he shares with Israel López Cachao.
