José Antonio Aguas Cruz proposes reforms to judicial elections

Legal expert José Antonio Aguas Cruz has proposed modifications to Mexico’s recently approved judicial reform, arguing that the current process failed to attract the highest quality candidates.

Aguas Cruz, a professor and researcher at the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), stated that the administration of justice faces a crisis of social distrust. He suggested that the system requires urgent reinforcement through open competitions to ensure better prosecutors and judges are selected.

He noted that the current legal crisis stems not from the laws themselves, but from how they are applied. He emphasized the need for continuous legal evolution, noting that a legal reform is not a permanent solution.
