Gustavo Costas to replace Ariel Holan at Cerro Porteño

Cerro Porteño is set to replace head coach Ariel Holan with Gustavo Costas following a period of poor results, including an elimination from the Copa Libertadores and a loss in the superclásico against Olimpia.

The club's management has moved to terminate Holan's contract, which was originally set to run until June 2027. Reports indicate the club may need to pay an indemnity of approximately $300,000 to resolve his departure. Holan leaves the team in ninth place in the Clausura tournament.

Gustavo Costas, who previously led Cerro Porteño to titles in 2005 and 2006, has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to return. Costas most recently managed Racing Club, where he secured the 2024 Copa Sudamericana and the 2025 Recopa titles. His appointment is expected to be formalized once Holan's exit is officially processed.
