José Arthur defense seeks verification following US child rescue operation
The legal defense for José Arthur, a five-year-old boy from Eldorado do Carajás, Pará, has requested that Brazilian authorities verify if he is among 163 children rescued during a recent law enforcement operation in Florida, United States.
José Arthur has been missing since March. The five-day task force in the U.S. rescued children ranging in age from two months to 17 years old. Investigations surrounding the operation identified instances of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and human trafficking.
While the defense is seeking to cross-reference the identities of the rescued children with missing persons records, there is currently no confirmation that José Arthur was located. The case has prompted calls for increased government investment in technological tools to better integrate security data and improve the efficiency of missing persons investigations.
