José Barberá Armelles: Political history of Rita Barberá's father
José Barberá Armelles, the father of former Valencia Mayor Rita Barberá, had a complex political and professional history in Spain. A journalist and media director, he also served as the president of the Valencian Press Association and as a city councilor in Valencia.
During the 1930s, his involvement with conservative and traditionalist movements led to multiple arrests. In August 1932, at the age of 17, he was detained during the Sanjurjada, a failed coup attempt against the Second Republic led by General José Sanjurjo. Among those arrested alongside him were several individuals who would later hold prominent positions in the Francoist regime, including Adolfo Rincón de Arellano García, who served as the mayor of Valencia between 1958 and 1969.
