José Carlos Peres ordered to repay Santos FC for irregular expenses
A civil court in Santos has ordered former Santos FC president José Carlos Peres to reimburse the club R$ 52,054.46 due to irregular expenses incurred during his administration from 2018 to late 2020. The ruling, issued by the 1ª Vara Cível da Comarca de Santos, follows an accounting audit that identified personal expenditures categorized as unjust enrichment.
Of the total amount, approximately R$ 40,000 is attributed to Peres and R$ 11,000 to Renan Félix. The court found that Peres failed to provide evidence that expenses for items such as groceries, pharmacies, fuel, and food were for the club's benefit.
The ruling was partially favorable to the club; the court rejected other claims, including a R$ 103,000 request regarding a reimbursement to Roberto Barbosa and R$ 16,000 in corporate card expenses, citing a lack of formal receipts or invoices. As this is a first-instance decision, both parties have the right to appeal. Peres has already filed an appeal.
