José Condessa cast in Portuguese adaptation of Avenida Brasil

Actor José Condessa has been cast in a leading role for ‘Avenida Portugal’, a Portuguese adaptation of the highly successful Brazilian telenovela ‘Avenida Brasil’. Condessa, 29, will portray the character Jorginho (also known as Batata), a role originally played by Cauã Reymond in the 2012 Brazilian production.

The announcement was made by the Portuguese broadcaster SIC. This move marks a significant career shift for Condessa, who is moving from the network TVI to join SIC. Condessa expressed that the opportunity to participate in this project was “irrecusable” due to the cultural impact of the original story.

In a related development, Globo has announced the cast for the second season of the original ‘Avenida Brasil’. Returning actors include Adriana Esteves, Cauã Reymond, and Murilo Benício, while new additions to the cast include Thalita Carauta and Thomás Aquino. The Portuguese version is expected to be available on Globoplay starting in January 2027.
