José Dirceu uses Legião Urbana song in campaign with family authorization
Giuliano Manfredini, son of the late Renato Russo, has authorized the use of the Legião Urbana song ‘Fábrica’ in the electoral campaign of José Dirceu, a candidate for the Chamber of Deputies.
In a video shared on social media, Manfredini, who holds the rights to the band's music, explained that the song’s themes of labor exploitation, social inequality, and the struggle for dignity remain relevant to the current Brazilian context. He stated that the song speaks to the weight of alienated labor while offering the possibility of changing the status quo. Manfredini also praised Dirceu’s history of fighting for democracy and expressed support for the candidate's proposals, including tax reform and the abolition of the 6x1 work schedule.
The song was originally released in 1986 on the album ‘Dois’. While Manfredini holds the rights, the legal ownership of the Legião Urbana estate remains subject to an ongoing dispute in the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) involving former band members Dado Villa-Lobos and Marcelo Bonfá.
