José Finkel Trophy sees two South American swimming records

The first day of the José Finkel Trophy at Esporte Clube Pinheiros in São Paulo resulted in two new South American records. Giulia Oliveira Carvalho of Minas Tênis Clube set a new continental mark in the 100m butterfly with a time of 56.06. Leonardo Barbieri Alcantara, also representing Minas Tênis Clube, established a new record in the 400m freestyle with a time of 3:37.46.

In addition to the records, the competition produced 11 'A' qualifying times for the upcoming World Short Course Championships in Beijing. These qualifying marks include performances in the women's 400m freestyle, men's 400m freestyle, women's 100m butterfly, men's 100m butterfly, and men's 200m breaststroke. The José Finkel Trophy serves as the sole Brazilian selection event for the 2026 World Short Course Championships.
