José Guerrero 'Yuyu' to withdraw from 2027 Cádiz Carnival COAC

Renowned carnival author José Guerrero, known as 'Yuyu', has confirmed he will not participate in the 2027 Concurso Oficial de Agrupaciones Carnavalescas (COAC) in Cádiz. The decision was made prior to the results of his 2026 competition entry and was not influenced by his group's ranking or social media criticism.

Guerrero cited the intense personal and professional demands of the competition as the primary reason for his departure. He noted that the five-month preparation period required for high-level carnival groups takes significant time away from his family and work. Additionally, he highlighted the high financial cost of maintaining a group, estimating an investment of between 40,000 and 50,000 euros.

Describing his recent return to the Gran Teatro Falla as a “last waltz,” Guerrero explained that the level of dedication required is no longer sustainable for him long-term.
