José Luis Roca, a prominent professor of Hispanic American Literature at the University of Oviedo, has passed away at the age of 78 following a battle with cancer.

Colleagues and family gathered at the San Francisco de Asís Church in Oviedo to pay their final respects. Roca was recognized as a historic figure in the humanities, noted for his deep bibliographical knowledge, his passionate teaching style, and his ability to inspire critical thinking in students.
