José Luis Romero Calzada sparks controversy with coffin stunt

José Luis Romero Calzada, a businessman and politician known as ‘El Tecmol’, has sparked controversy in Ciudad Valles, San Luis Potosí, after performing a stunt involving a coffin. During an event at Luis Donaldo Colosio Park, Romero Calzada emerged from a coffin as part of a social media trend described as ‘farming aura’ (farmear aura), accompanied by music and supporters chanting his nickname.

Romero Calzada, an aspiring mayoral candidate for the Green Ecological Party of Mexico (PVEM) for the 2027 elections, has a history of using viral social media tactics to gain visibility. Previous controversial actions include a striptease during a 2021 gubernatorial campaign and sharing images of himself kissing a donkey in 2018.

In addition to his political activities, Romero Calzada is the owner of Grupo Tekmol. His career has spanned various roles, including local deputy in the San Luis Potosí Congress and positions within the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). He also faces legal scrutiny from former mayor David Armando Medina Salazar, who has threatened to sue over alleged verbal aggressions.
