José Luiz Gavinelli, Diadema Finance Secretary, dies

José Luiz Gavinelli, the Secretary of Finance for Diadema, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, due to cancer. An economist with over four decades of experience in public administration, Gavinelli had served in his current role since January 1, 2025.

During his tenure in Diadema, Gavinelli was instrumental in reorganizing public accounts. Notably, he participated in the renegotiation of the municipality's debt with the Union, which reduced liabilities from approximately R$ 958 million to R$ 198 million, resulting in an estimated savings of R$ 760 million. He also contributed to initiatives such as the creation of the 'Nota Ouro'.

Gavinelli's career was deeply rooted in the Grande ABC region. In São Bernardo do Campo, he held various financial roles since 1981, including serving as Secretary of Finance between 2017 and 2024. His professional background also included serving as deputy secretary of Economic Development and Labor for the state of São Paulo and chief of staff at Finep.

Mayor Taka Yamauchi's administration expressed condolences, highlighting Gavinelli's significant contributions to the municipality's fiscal stability. During his memorial service, family and colleagues remembered him as a dedicated professional and a resilient individual who remained active in his work until his final days.
