José Luís Carneiro rejects central bloc in Portugal
José Luís Carneiro, the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party (PS), has rejected the possibility of forming a central bloc with the Social Democratic Party (PSD). Speaking at the Estoril Conferences in Cascais, Carneiro argued that maintaining a clear political alternative between the PS and the PSD is essential for democracy, providing voters with distinct political responses for their future.
Carneiro highlighted the Socialist Party's role in ensuring political stability by enabling the 2027 State Budget to avoid a crisis. While he dismissed the idea of a formal alliance to prevent the Chega party from governing, he noted that he seeks reciprocity from the PSD should the PS win future elections. He emphasized that the PS aims to be a solid and reliable alternative for governing the country.
