José Manuel Núñez of FACUA Extremadura warns of consumer protection gaps

José Manuel Núñez has been re‑elected president of FACUA Extremadura after the association’s general assembly, which reported 4,402 members and 326 consumer consultations and complaints processed in 2025. He said his new term will focus on water supply, health care, banking and communications.

Núñez highlighted the lack of implementation of Spain’s Law 1/2023 on the human right to water, noting that the required regulation is still missing. Without it, municipalities rely on local rules, leading to issues such as arsenic‑contaminated water reported in Valderrosas (Carcaboso) and problems in Mérida, Olivenza and Lobón. He called for compensation where municipalities fail to provide potable water.

He also raised concerns about the health sector, stating that the mandate of the regional patient defender is expiring and that the Extremadura Council of Consumers and Users, which should propose a new defender, has suspended its meetings, leaving the position in jeopardy.
