Aviation infrastructure expands in Colombia and Dominican Republic

Major aviation infrastructure projects are underway in Colombia and the Dominican Republic. In Colombia, the José María Córdova International Airport in Rionegro has begun a $164 billion COP (approximately $41 million USD) modernization plan. Managed by the Agencia Nacional de Infraestructura (ANI) and Airplan, the project aims to increase annual passenger capacity from 11 million to 17.5 million. Recent completions include 24 new check-in modules and an international security filter. The full project, which includes a new baggage building and expanded waiting areas, is expected to be completed by April 2027. Additionally, the Gustavo Rojas Pinilla International Airport in San Andrés is undergoing repairs to its air conditioning, elevators, and escalators to improve operational conditions.

In the Dominican Republic, the Instituto Dominicano de Aviación Civil (IDAC) is organizing an aeronautical job fair in Pedernales. This initiative aims to recruit personnel for the upcoming Cabo Rojo International Airport, scheduled to open in 2027. The IDAC is offering 33 positions across 11 different roles, including technical, administrative, and support staff, to support the growing tourism sector in the southern region.
