José María Micó wins Alfonso Reyes International Prize

Spanish poet, philologist, and translator José María Micó has been awarded the 2026 Alfonso Reyes International Prize. The award was presented by the Mexican Government's Secretariat of Culture and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (Inbal), in collaboration with the Autonomous University of Nuevo León and the International Alfonsina Society.

The jury, composed of Sara Poot Herrera, Adolfo Castañón, and José María Espinasa, recognized Micó for his diverse contributions across research, essay writing, translation, and literary creation. The panel noted that his work reflects the ecumenical spirit of the prize, balancing academic rigor with a passion for both classical and contemporary voices.

Micó, a professor at Pompeu Fabra University, is noted for his expertise in the Golden Age, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance. His work includes a notable translation of the 'Divine Comedy'. Claudia Curiel de Icaza, Mexico's Secretary of Culture, stated that his career helps bring fundamental works of universal literature to new generations, building bridges between languages and cultures.
