José Marcelino “N” re-arrested in Mérida and transferred to Cancún

Authorities have re-arrested José Marcelino “N”, known as “El Marce,” in Mérida and transferred him to the Cancún prison (Cereso). Identified as a member of the “Los Chapitos” faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, he is linked to the April 2023 murders of four people in Cancún’s hotel zone, as well as drug trafficking and illegal weapons possession.

The arrest follows an October 2 assassination attempt in which gunmen on a motorcycle attacked him in front of his home in the Montes de Amé neighborhood. After surviving the attack and receiving medical treatment, he was apprehended by security forces from the Quintana Roo Prosecutor's Office and military personnel on October 13.
