José Maroto joins Celta de Vigo board of directors

Costa Rican businessman José Enrique Maroto, owner of Sporting FC, has officially joined the Board of Directors of the Spanish football club Celta de Vigo. The appointment was confirmed following the club's Ordinary and Extraordinary General Shareholders' Meeting.

Maroto has expressed his intention to participate in a €10 million capital increase designed to fund the ‘Celta 360’ project, which focuses on sports development and infrastructure. While he intends to be an active participant rather than a passive investor, he is not currently announced as a majority owner. His involvement follows a long-standing relationship with Celta president Marian Mouriño.

The Maroto family, which includes Osael Maroto, president of the Costa Rican Football Federation, aims to leverage shared visions between their projects in Costa Rica and Spain to implement best practices in football development.
