José Martinazzo, roller hockey world champion, dies
José Antonio Martinazzo, a prominent figure in Argentine roller hockey, has passed away following a serious illness. A world champion with the Argentine national team in Novara, Italy, in 1984, Martinazzo was a key member of the generation that established San Juan as a major hub for the sport.
Martinazzo enjoyed an extensive professional career in Europe spanning 15 years, playing for notable clubs including HC Castiglione and HC Monza in Italy, as well as Reus Deportiu in Spain.
Beyond his professional achievements, he maintained a deep connection to his formative club, Estudiantil Patín Club. Club president Pablo Martinazzo highlighted his selfless contributions, noting that during the economic hardships of the pandemic, José served as a coach for both the first team and youth divisions without receiving any compensation. The club, which hosted a living tribute for him last year, is preparing further honors to recognize his sporting and community legacy.
